MQM-P Condemns Sindh Government, Alleges ‘Licence to Kill’ for Robbers

Licence to Kill

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) vehemently criticized the Sindh government for the alarming deterioration in law and order, particularly in Karachi, stating that robbers now operate with impunity, effectively holding a ‘licence to kill’.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, MQM-P leader Senator Faisal Sabzwari condemned the prolonged reign of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the Home Ministry, spanning 16 years, yet failing to address the persistent security challenges in the province.

He highlighted the tragic incidents during Ramadan, where numerous citizens lost their lives while resisting robberies, with billions worth of mobile phones being snatched.

Senator Sabzwari squarely blamed elements within the police force for facilitating street crimes in Karachi, suggesting that such criminal activities couldn’t persist without collusion from corrupt officers.

The surge in street crimes has claimed the lives of dozens of citizens in recent weeks, notably during Ramadan, reflecting a dire security situation.

Demanding immediate action, MQM-P called upon the provincial government to bolster police patrolling in middle-class neighborhoods of the city.

Senator Sabzwari also announced plans to engage with law enforcement authorities, including the Sindh Rangers director-general and President Asif Ali Zardari, to address the pervasive lawlessness.

Expressing frustration with the state’s inaction, MQM-P urged the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court to intervene and hold accountable those responsible for failing to curb crimes in Karachi.

Senator Sabzwari criticized Sindh Home Minister Zia ul Hassan Lanjar for his ineffective leadership and reminded him of his responsibility to safeguard the entire province.

Moreover, MQM-P leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan lambasted the provincial government’s role in appointing an Inspector General of Police, insinuating that the selection process favored political interests over public safety.

He warned of further deterioration in law and order if the appointment process wasn’t transparent and merit-based.

In conclusion, MQM-P emphasized the urgent need for decisive action to combat street crimes and restore public trust in law enforcement agencies, urging the government to prioritize citizen safety over political agendas.
