Lawyer Claims Imran Khan Offered Transfer to Bani Gala Residence

Imran Khan

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that its leader, Imran Khan, was offered a deal under which he would be transferred to Bani Gala, his residence in Islamabad, to serve the remaining time of his sentence.

This claim was made by Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, on Thursday. According to Chaudhry, Khan was presented with the option to move to Bani Gala, but the former prime minister emphasized that he would not agree to any relocation until those detained without trial were released.

Chaudhry further elaborated on the matter, stating that Khan’s position remained firm, and he would not entertain such offers until there was progress on the release of individuals who have been imprisoned without due process.

These remarks were made outside Adiala jail, where Khan has been incarcerated for over a year. The statement comes amid ongoing discussions between the federal government and PTI regarding two critical issues: the release of all “political prisoners” and the formation of a commission to investigate the events surrounding the May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024, incidents.

Earlier, reports had surfaced suggesting that the government was considering offering Khan a house arrest deal on the condition that he ceases challenging the current political system and stops engaging in protest politics.

This development was reported last month. However, PTI founder’s sister, Aleema Khan, strongly denied that Imran Khan was willing to strike any deal.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala jail, she stated that her brother had already served over a year and a half in prison and saw no reason to make a deal at this point.

Her statement was further clarified by PTI Senator Shibli Faraz, who rejected the idea that Imran Khan was seeking any personal relief through the negotiations with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led coalition government.

Faraz suggested that certain elements were trying to undermine the talks between the two parties, which have been at odds for several months.

Chaudhry also stressed that the PTI negotiation committee should be allowed to meet with Khan in prison to discuss the next steps, asserting that no force could stop the party’s momentum.

He also referred to the ongoing £190 million case against Imran Khan, suggesting that the outcome would likely mirror the previous verdicts, which had not been in his favor.

Despite these challenges, Khan’s legal team remains resolute in its stance, continuing to pursue his release and advocate for the party’s position in the current political landscape.
