Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur issued a stark warning on Tuesday, stating that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would bring the entire country to a standstill if its founder, Imran Khan, suffers any mistreatment in Adiala Jail.
This statement follows concerns raised by Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, who reported inadequate facilities for her brother, including unhygienic food that allegedly caused him to vomit, and the disconnection of power to his cell since October 3.
In a video shared on PTI’s official X account, Gandapur criticized the federal and Punjab governments for their alleged harsh treatment of Khan.
He highlighted the restrictions imposed on Khan’s interactions with family and party members, labeling these actions as part of a broader strategy against the PTI leader.
He urged the public to prepare for significant action, declaring, “The government’s days are numbered.” He emphasized the need to reclaim the “stolen mandate” by shutting down the entire country, warning that the government would not find a way to evade accountability.
Gandapur also targeted alleged defectors within the party following the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, proclaiming that those who betrayed Khan, whether for money or out of cowardice, would be remembered as traitors without exception.
Despite his strong rhetoric, there are growing concerns among PTI leaders that Gandapur’s aggressive stance could lead to the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Party member Sher Afzal Marwat recently voiced worries that the current situation might provide an opportunity for opponents to dismantle the provincial government.
Amid these tensions, the PTI continues to express anxiety over Khan’s well-being, even as PTI Chairman Gohar Khan recently confirmed that Khan’s health remains stable following a medical evaluation by doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
