The inaugural sessions of the provincial assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan are scheduled for today, Wednesday, following the recent national polls where voters in these federating units elected their representatives.
Independent candidates supported by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party dominated the provincial elections in KP, securing over 90 seats and positioning themselves strongly to form a government for a third consecutive term.
The KP election, held on 111 general seats, was delayed in two constituencies due to the unfortunate death of two candidates. Imran Khan has nominated Ali Amin Gandapur as his party’s candidate for the province’s new chief minister.
Governor Hajji Ghulam Ali summoned the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s session on February 28, according to a notification from his office issued over the weekend.
The inaugural session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly is encountering delays attributed to disruptions from some of the party followers. Despite the scheduled oath-taking ceremony for the assembly members today, the proceedings have been marred by disturbances, hindering the smooth initiation of the legislative session.
The elected members of the KPK Assembly are set to solemnly take their oath of office today, marking a significant step in the democratic process. The speaker and deputy speaker will be elected in tomorrow’s session.
In southwestern Balochistan, authorities have called the first session of the legislative assembly today for the oath-taking of newly elected members. The session is scheduled to begin at three in the afternoon, as announced by Radio Pakistan.
It’s worth noting that Punjab and Sindh have already conducted their sessions, electing speakers, deputy speakers, and chief ministers.
