KARACHI: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has expressed that Arif Alvi should be in Attock Jail rather than the President’s House.
The spokesperson for JUI-F, Aslam Ghauri, stated that if Arif Alvi continues to hold the position of the President of Pakistan, it could be detrimental to the country and its constitution.
The JUI-F leader has called for the resignation of President Arif Alvi before the upcoming general elections.
Aslam Ghauri criticized President Alvi, asserting that he has undermined the significance of the country’s highest office with his controversial role during the dissolution of the assembly and the process of setting the election date.
Following directives from the Supreme Court (SC), Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja met with the president and reached a unanimous agreement to hold general elections in the country on February 8, 2024.
The meeting between President Dr. Arif Alvi and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and his delegation lasted for an hour at the President’s House.
It is worth mentioning that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officially announced the date for the general elections on February 8, 2024, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order.
Pakistan Halts Arrest of Afghans Awaiting US Relocation in Effort to Combat Illegal Migration
The Pakistani government has issued orders to refrain from arresting Afghans who are waiting to be relocated to the United States, as part of its efforts to combat illegal migration.
More than 180,000 individuals have returned to Afghanistan in response to Pakistan’s directive to 1.7 million Afghans, deemed to be living illegally in Pakistan, to either leave the country or face deportation, according to border officials.
Human Rights Watch has previously expressed concerns that Afghans awaiting resettlement in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada, following their escape from the Taliban government, are at risk of deportation once their Pakistani visas expire.
Several Western nations are still in the process of resettling Afghan refugees, two years after the Taliban took control, leaving many families in a state of uncertainty as they wait in Pakistan.
A letter from the Interior Ministry, dated November 2 and seen by AFP, stated, “As per the Embassy of America, 1,150 Afghan nationals are being sponsored for relocation and resettlement to the United States. It is requested that it may be ensured that the Afghan nationals who are mentioned in the subject list are not arrested until further notice.”
