International Community Called On India To Answer For Human Rights Abuses In IHK

An official policy statement from India’s Foreign Minister informing the UN Security Council President and Secretary-General of India’s illegal measures preceded this resolution to alter Kashmir (IHK)’s demographic composition.

A resolution calling upon accountability for India’s severe and persistent abuses of human rights and war crimes being committed in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu Kashmir (IIOJK) was overwhelmingly passed by the National Assembly on Thursday.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Pakistani foreign minister, delivered the UN resolution calling on New Delhi to cease and desist from any unilateral and unlawful acts in the Indian-held Kashmir valley and to meet its duties under the relevant UN resolutions.

An official policy statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Minister informing the UN Security Council President and Secretary-General of India’s illegal measures preceded this resolution to alter Kashmir (IHK)’s demographic composition.

Delimitation was planned to further marginalise Kashmiris and prepare the way for a new puppet administration to be established in the area, according to this minister.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated Pakistan will continue to raise international awareness of India’s unlawful actions in the IHK.

Indian occupation forces have been taking a series of illegal measures to alter the demographics of occupied territories in flagrant violation of international law, particularly The Fourth Geneva Convention and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The National Assembly expressed “grave concern over these measures.”

There has been a “new attempt at demographic engineering in IHK,” through a so-called “Delimitation Commission,” that was set up by the Indian occupation of IHK in March 2020, according to a statement from parliament’s lower house of parliament. A wide range of political parties have already rejected the commission’s recommendations in the IHK. The “so-called Delimitation Commission’s report seeks to convert the Muslim majority of IIOJK into the minority, and further marginalise, disenfranchise and disempower the Kashmiri population in IIOJK, as well as advance political and electoral objectives of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).”

The National Assembly expressed deep worry that India is attempting to continue its unlawful activities on 5 August 2019 and the following steps, all of which have been explicitly rejected by Pakistan and the Kashmiri people, through the delimitation process.

UN Security Council has long been aware of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which the House of Representatives reiterated. Furthermore, it emphasised the necessity of an UN-sponsored free and impartial plebiscite to allow the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination under relevant UNSC resolutions, saying that no election facade is based on a sham delimitation exercise could replace this legitimacy and necessity.

The UN Security Council resolution and the Fourth Geneva Convention require India to desist from changing the population of the seized land in violation of international law, the UNSC resolutions, and India’s own national laws.

This letter urges India to immediately halt its persecution of the Kashmiri people and extensive breaches of human rights and international humanitarian law as stated in the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

They also asked Pakistan’s government to keep the international community apprised of Indian activities and to emphasise and strongly present the Kashmir issue in all bilateral and multilateral venues, including the UN and OIC.
