Tehreek-e-Insaf head Imran Khan praised the Supreme Court for “standing firm and defending the Constitution and law” on Tuesday after they overturned the Punjab deputy speaker’s decision on the election of the province’s chief minister.
According to the PTI head, “I salute our SC judges for standing firm & supporting the Constitution & law, against all sort of threats & abuse”.
Deputy Speaker Mazari’s ruling on the election of Punjab’s chief minister was overturned by a three-judge bench of Pakistani Supreme Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, and Justice Munib Akhtar on Monday, deeming his interpretation of Article 63A(1)(b) of Pakistan’s Constitution “incorrect and erroneous.”
As a result of the decision, PML-Hamza N’s Shehbaz was stripped of his role as “trustee” chief minister and his challenger Parvez Elahi was appointed to assume control of Punjab.
According to another tweet from the PTI’s leader, his party plans to celebrate tomorrow (Wednesday) with the people of Pakistan who supported it during its campaign against the government.
