Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, claimed on Saturday that the imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, is conspiring from within his cell to instigate further political unrest in the country.
In an interview on programme ‘Naya Pakistan,’ Sanaullah emphasized that Khan was explicitly prohibited by the court from holding political meetings while incarcerated in Adiala Jail.
“Imran Khan is not allowed to orchestrate plans to create chaos while sitting in jail,” he asserted. Sanaullah further added that although there is no direct audio or video evidence, authorities in charge at the jail have gathered enough evidence to substantiate these claims.
Sanaullah’s statements follow allegations from PTI leaders who claimed they were denied permission to visit their detained leader in Adiala Jail, despite having waited outside the facility for several hours earlier this week.
Addressing the PTI’s planned rally in Islamabad, the senior PML-N leader criticized the timing, which coincided with Muharram, deeming it highly inappropriate.
“The PTI’s decision to hold a rally during Muharram is an attempt to incite political chaos,” Sanaullah remarked. He clarified that the revocation of the PTI’s permission for the rally was an administrative decision, free from governmental interference.
It is important to note that the PTI canceled its planned rally in Islamabad earlier today after the federal capital’s chief commissioner withdrew the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the event in Tarnol.
In response, PTI leaders filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking a contempt of court action against the Islamabad administration for denying the rally permission.
In the interview, Sanaullah also alleged that foreign elements had supported the PTI in orchestrating the May 9 riots last year with the aim of destabilizing Pakistan. “Enemy countries want to spread anarchy in Pakistan through the PTI,” he stated.
The May 9, 2023, protests erupted following Imran Khan’s arrest, during which rioters targeted civil and military installations, including Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The military designated May 9 as “Black Day” and announced that protesters would be prosecuted under the Army Act.
Furthermore, Sanaullah hinted at the possibility of publicly disclosing evidence of the PTI receiving foreign aid if the federal cabinet decides to do so.
He implied that the federal government has gathered substantial proof of foreign involvement in supporting PTI’s efforts to create unrest within the country.
