Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in Iran on Tuesday for a two-day visit, during which he would meet with Iranian authorities to discuss several topics, including bilateral relations, commerce, security in the area, and Islamophobia.
Bilawal’s first official visit to Iran. As a guest of Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian greeted him upon his arrival in the neighbouring nation. He was there for official business.
The state-run APP posted a video of Bilawal and Abdollahian sitting with other dignitaries.
Bilawal will also greet Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other dignitaries during the trip, according to a Foreign Office statement (tomorrow).
On all topics of common interest between him and his Iranian counterpart, Bilawal would convey his views, according to the FO statement.
There will be discussions at the delegation-level on “all aspects of bilateral relations, including trade and commercial linkages, power supply from Iran, border sustenance markets, road and rail connectivity, and facilitation of Zaireen,” during the visit.
“They will also examine regional security situation in Afghanistan and South Asia and battling Islamophobia.”
Under the FO, Bilawal’s trip to Iran is part of ongoing high-level discussions between India and Iran. After a brief encounter on May 26, 2022, the two foreign ministers met again on the fringes of Davos’ World Economic Forum.
As the last point, the FO emphasised that “People-to-people connections between Pakistan and Iran are strong because of their shared geography, cultural similarities and history of mutual respect. Frequent high-level interactions have cemented these brotherly ties. This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations .” It is a good idea.
