ISLAMABAD: Fawad Chaudhry, leader of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and former information minister, has called on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to put an end to bitterness with both the establishment and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif before the elections. Speaking to the media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Fawad expressed dissatisfaction with the current political landscape. He urged Imran Khan to mend ties with other political leaders and the establishment.
Fawad questioned how the country could move forward in such an atmosphere of bitterness. He emphasized that bringing the country’s situation back to normal is more important than the elections.
Moreover, he called for reducing differences and bitterness between Imran Khan and the establishment. He urged Imran Khan to improve ties with Nawaz Sharif in order to create a conducive environment for holding elections.
Fawad proposed signing a “Charter of Democracy” to return things to normalcy, emphasizing the need to decide how to normalize Pakistan before the elections. He suggested that a democratic charter should be created before the election to ease tensions among dissenting parties.
The former minister expressed reservations about the interim setup. He stated that the caretaker government would be formed through consultation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and NA opposition leader Raja Riaz. Both leaders have expressed their willingness to contest the next elections on a PML-N ticket.
Zardari Also calls for negotiations
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has also called for mutual negotiations among all parties. He mentioned that talks have been initiated to resolve issues related to elections. He further stated that when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) comes on one page for the general election, the PTI would also be consulted.
