ECP Registers Two New Political Parties, Expanding Total to 173 Ahead of Elections

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially recognized two new political parties, namely “Khadmeen-e-Sindh” and “Pakistan Kissan Labour Party,” in preparation for the upcoming general elections. With these additions, the total number of registered political parties overseen by the commission now stands at 173.

In accordance with the relevant sections of the Elections Act, 2017, and the Election Rules, 2017, the ECP has released notifications providing detailed information about the internal party elections, the names and roles of party office-bearers, and election results for both “Khadmeen-e-Sindh” and “Pakistan Kissan Labour Party.” Abdul Fatah Samejo is the president of Khadmeen-e-Sindh, while Mubashar Majeed is the president of the Pakistan Kissan Labour Party.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar emphasized at the Pakistan Mission in New York that no political party would face prevention from participating in the electoral process. However, he made it clear that any acts of vandalism or disruption of the electoral process would be subject to legal consequences, possibly referring indirectly to the PTI.

Responding to a question, Kakar stated that the ECP is responsible for conducting the general elections, and it will announce the exact date soon. The commission had previously announced that the general elections would take place in the last week of January 2024 without specifying the exact date.
