The Supreme Court of Pakistan has postponed the hearing of the PTI intra-party election review case until October 21, following the absence of any legal representation from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in court.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa expressed surprise at the request for adjournment made by Hamid Khan, who cited family obligations as the reason for his absence.
During the proceedings, CJP Isa clarified that the court’s previous ruling regarding the intra-party election had been misinterpreted. He emphasized that the case pertains specifically to PTI’s internal elections and not to issues surrounding election symbols, as has been suggested in public discourse.
Akbar S. Babar’s attorney informed the court that PTI had already conducted its intra-party elections but acknowledged ongoing disputes with the Election Commission. The Chief Justice questioned why there had been delays in filing the review petition and criticized PTI’s legal representatives for not seeking an expedited hearing.
While Babar’s legal team requested the case be heard the following day, the Chief Justice denied this request, cautioning that such rapid rescheduling could lead to unnecessary disruption.
He reiterated that the adjournment until October 21 was made in the interest of justice but warned that no further delays would be permitted for PTI’s legal team.
This ruling underscores the court’s intent to address the matter promptly and highlights the importance of PTI’s adherence to judicial proceedings as they navigate the complexities of their internal electoral disputes.
As the case unfolds, the emphasis on timely legal representation and clear communication will be crucial for PTI’s position in the ongoing review.
