CANADA-USA Border: Truckers Protesting COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate

Thousands of Canadians are protesting COVID-19 lockdown measures and vaccine mandates.

OTTAWA: In response to Canadian trucks blocking roads on Monday to protest their government’s pandemic management efforts, the busiest border between the United States and Canada remained closed on Tuesday. The protests took off as a so-called Truckers’ “Freedom Convoy” but have snowballed into something bigger, with Truckers flocking Canada’s capital.

On the 28th of January, truckers protesting the federal government’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate for all cross-border travel blocked the roadways of Ottawa, the nation’s capital. However, since Sunday, police have started efforts to seize back control. Thousands of gallons of petrol have been seized and police have removed an oil tanker truck since Sunday night.

Late on Monday, trucks began obstructing traffic on the Ambassador Bridge, which connects Lake Erie and Lake Huron.

Police later tweeted that the bridge was reopened, contradicting Canada’s Border Services Agency’s statement that it was closed.

The owner of Detroit International Bridge Co.declared that international trade on the bridge must resume.
