Bilawal: Khan Must Answer for Allegations Against CJP and Army Chief

PPP Lawmaker Demands Clarification from Opposition Leader Over Imran Khan’s Allegations

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), asserted that former Prime Minister Imran Khan must face consequences for his recent allegations against the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and the army chief. Speaking to the National Assembly on Saturday, Bilawal criticized Khan for his remarks, which he described as attacks on key institutions for political gain.

“Last night, the entire nation witnessed the statement from Prisoner Number 804 [Imran Khan]. In his pursuit of political relief, this individual has targeted every major institution,” Bilawal said during the session presided over by Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah.

Bilawal urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to verify whether Khan was indeed responsible for the statements in question. He highlighted that the recent progress towards legislative improvements and strengthening democracy was undermined by what he deemed an assault on democratic values.

On Thursday, Khan had posted on social media accusing Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and accountability judge Humayun Dilawar of bias against PTI. Khan alleged that a small, powerful elite controls the nation’s resources and is now targeting the Supreme Court.

Bilawal condemned these statements as provocative, noting that they amounted to contempt of court against the CJP and political attacks on the army chief. “If these statements are indeed from Khan, they will have consequences as per our Constitution and laws. PTI should not object if these consequences unfold,” Bilawal warned.

The PPP chairman also sought clarification from the opposition leader regarding the authenticity of the post, questioning who manages Khan’s social media account.

Bilawal commended the PPP’s South Punjab chapter for its resilience and emphasized that politics should focus on respecting the people’s decisions rather than perpetuating allegations of rigging. He hinted at an upcoming revelation concerning Forms 45 and 47 from the February 8 elections and urged PTI to address the sources of their issues.

In response, Leader of Opposition Omar Ayub accused Bilawal of stirring controversy with his remarks. He recalled a historical moment from 1958, underscoring his commitment to upholding the Constitution and supporting democratic principles.
