Key actions taken by the government to put out a damaging fire at pinewoods in the Sherani district of Balochistan include forming a task force; setting up a control room; and imposing an emergency in Zhob.
It has been reported to Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, that an operation is now taking place in the affected region. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered local officials to speed up fire suppression efforts during a recent meeting in Lahore and requested a report on their progress.
According to the sources, a joint federal-provincial team was created to address the issue. In order to keep track of the situation, the department of forestry and wildlife established a command and control centre.
In addition, Commissioner Zhob declared a state of emergency in the area.
Chief Secretary Balochistan, Secretary Forests, and DG PDMA all paid a visit to the affected region to keep an eye on the operation as it progressed. Additional meetings were held in Zhob, attended by the provincial and federal governments and the commander of the 12 Corps.
A task group overseen by the secretary of forests and wildlife Balochistan was also established in district Sherani at the prime minister’s command. The Koh-e-Sulaiman forest fire had also ignited earlier, and the KP government had issued an emergency declaration.
