Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, who was ousted as PML-party Q’s head only days before, said on Monday that he will amend the party’s constitution to address charges levelled against him.
Shujaat remarked during a news conference that he has always backed the truth and would continue to do so in the future. The party’s secretary general, Tariq Bashir Cheema, was also ousted along with Shujaat by the party’s central working committee.
PML-Q chief said that he had been targeted because he had spoken the truth.
When it came time to nominate a new Punjab chief minister, the PML-Q leader and his cousin Pervaiz Elahi found themselves at odds with the rest of the party. A letter from Shujaat encouraging members to vote for Hamza Shehbaz in the Punjab CM election instead of Elahi was delivered to the party.
According to the report, Shujaat’s health was preventing him from making ‘prudent’ judgments, so the party’s CWC decided to remove him from his position. Over his alleged involvement in conspiracy theories, Cheema was also dismissed.
Shujaat slammed PTI chairman Imran Khan for criticizing state institutions at a news conference today.
Additionally, Cheema declared at the news conference, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain would not be replaced as the party president.
As Cheema put it, “I’m being accused of planning a conspiracy.” He said that he always attempted to keep the party together. This is my 20th year as a member of this organization,” he continued.
Cheema went on to say that Shujaat was still backed by the party’s top leadership.
