Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the chief of the Awam Pakistan Party (APP), stated on Sunday that the United States cannot do anything to resolve the situation for Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Speaking on private TV’s channel’s Live,” Abbasi emphasized that for Pakistan’s progress, Imran Khan must undergo personal reform.
Abbasi further elaborated that without such reforms, the country would struggle to move forward. He also reflected on the shifting global dynamics, citing the recent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and how such matters were once managed within ethical boundaries.
Recalling the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Abbasi mentioned the bold decision to conduct nuclear tests in response to India’s actions. He noted that Pakistan had no choice but to act decisively in the face of such threats.
On the topic of foreign relations, Abbasi highlighted the growing threat Russia poses to Europe, while the US is more focused on deal-making. He suggested that Pakistan must find a way to balance its ties with both Russia and Europe, potentially acting as a bridge between the two.
Abbasi also underscored the importance of maintaining relations with all countries, noting that while the US has pressured Pakistan to reduce ties with China, China has never imposed such a demand. Instead, China encourages Pakistan to foster positive relationships with all nations.
Turning to domestic politics, Abbasi expressed a desire for the opposition to reach a consensus and mentioned the APP’s stance in favor of releasing political prisoners. He criticized the current state of the country, describing it as neither constitutional nor principled.
Abbasi also criticized the political cycle of alternating leadership, arguing that it only serves to create division. He suggested that if unity could be restored, even Imran Khan would find relief. Regarding PTI, Abbasi acknowledged the party’s strong popular support but stressed that if PTI continued with the same approach it had during its four years in power, it would not benefit from it.
He advised Imran Khan to reflect on his mistakes and emphasized that PTI needs significant reform. Abbasi pointed out that while PTI made mistakes, the subsequent government only compounded them. He further explained that PTI is made up of its founder, supporters, and workers, but the leadership itself holds little true significance without meaningful change.
In conclusion, Abbasi reiterated that for the country to progress, Imran Khan must undergo reform, as no external party, including the United States, can resolve this internal challenge.
