On Tuesday (today), the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicts a heatwave across the nation, with temperatures in Karachi possibly reaching 38 degrees Celsius on Monday.
As per the Meteorological Office, most of the country will see a steady rise in daytime temperatures because of a buildup of high pressure in the upper atmosphere.
Weather conditions in Karachi are expected to be hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, according to a notice from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.
Temperatures in Sindh’s interior are expected to rise by up to 48 degrees Celsius, with Dadu, Nawabshah, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur all seeing a rise of 43 to 45 degrees Celsius.
This means that temperatures in upper and central Sindh, South Punjab, and parts of Balochistan will probably be six to eight degrees Celsius above normal. In upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, temperatures will probably only be five to seven degrees Celsius above normal.
The Met department instructed farmers to manage crop water supply in accordance with the advice. It issued a public health warning on the dangers of overexposure to the sun.
Around 1,300 individuals died because of heatstroke and dehydration in 2015 when a heatwave coupled with blackouts and Ramazan. According to a Reuter report, the same heat conditions (44 degrees Celsius) killed 65 people in Karachi alone in three years.
