KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Faryal Talpur has sought an investigation into a police raid at the family home of party MNA Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani in Karachi, directing the Sindh police chief to establish the facts surrounding the operation.
Talpur, who chairs the Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Affairs, stressed that authorities must respect the sanctity of homes and protect citizens’ rights. She called for a report detailing the circumstances of the raid.
The development follows a police operation linked to a narcotics investigation involving Azad Jakhrani, the lawmaker’s brother. Police registered a case after allegedly recovering cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, from a suspect and a property in Karachi.
According to the first information report (FIR), police stopped a motorcyclist near the Clock Tower area and allegedly recovered 62 grammes of cocaine and 106 grammes of crystal methamphetamine.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that the drugs belonged to Azad Jakhrani and that additional narcotics were stored at a bungalow. Police subsequently searched the property based on the suspect’s identification.
The FIR states that officers recovered more than one kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine and another 22 grammes of cocaine from the premises. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Reacting to the raid, Aijaz Jakhrani alleged that police conducted the operation at night and violated the sanctity of his family home. He said he had informed Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho.
The MNA demanded a transparent inquiry and called for action against any officials found responsible for misconduct.
Talpur’s intervention has placed the police operation under scrutiny, with the requested report expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the raid.
