A police constable was martyred and six officials sustained injuries in an IED attack in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The roadside explosion targeted a police patrol van during a search and strike operation on Monday.
Karak District Police Officer spokesperson Shaukat Khan said the blast occurred in the Ghol Dam area. Counter-Terrorism Department officials and police personnel were conducting an operation when the IED exploded.
According to the spokesperson, terrorists planted the explosive along the roadside before the patrol passed. The blast damaged the police van and killed one constable at the scene. Moreover, six other officials sustained injuries in the attack.
Police Recover Bodies and Injured Officials
Following the explosion, DPO Imran Khan reached the area with additional police personnel. Officers evacuated the martyred constable and injured officials from the damaged vehicle. Subsequently, authorities transported them to the District Headquarters Hospital.
DPO Imran later visited the hospital and inquired about the condition of the injured personnel. Meanwhile, security forces continued efforts to investigate the attack and identify those responsible.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The province has experienced a significant rise in terrorist violence over the past year.
Karak Faces Rising Terrorist Attacks
According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, KP recorded 2,331 fatalities from violence in 2025. The figure increased from 1,620 deaths in 2024, marking an increase of 711 fatalities.
In June, terrorists ambushed a police team in Karak’s Darga Saheedan area. The attack injured at least eight police officers within the Khurrum Police Station jurisdiction.
Earlier in February, terrorists killed three Federal Constabulary officers in Karak district. Consequently, repeated attacks have increased pressure on security forces operating across the province.
Authorities continue efforts to prevent militant attacks and protect law enforcement personnel. Meanwhile, investigations into Monday’s IED attack remain underway.
