Forced Marriage
In a shocking case of forced marriage, Punjab police have arrested at least 10 individuals, including the 70-year-old groom and the 12-year-old girl’s 60-year-old stepfather, for their involvement in the illicit union.
The incident occurred in the Hazro Police Station jurisdiction of Attock, where the stepfather allegedly arranged the marriage between the minor girl and the elderly man.
According to police reports, the stepfather, who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the forced marriage, had orchestrated the entire event. The police have registered a case against the individuals involved, including the groom, the stepfather, and four siblings of the groom.
During the police raid, the marriage registrar, Iftikhar Shah alias Mitho, managed to escape the scene, leaving behind a trail of evidence.
The police are currently conducting an investigation to gather more details about the incident and to determine the extent of the involvement of each individual.
The arrests were made possible due to the swift action taken by the police, who responded promptly to the report of the forced marriage. The authorities have ensured that the minor girl is safe and is being provided with the necessary support and counseling.
