PML-N Dominates Mirpur Division Polls
MUZAFFARABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won nine of 13 constituencies in the Mirpur Division in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). , According to initial results available today, the first phase of AJK elections took place on Monday. Despite a tight security, clashes, violence, and allegations of electoral malpractice surfaced during voting in Mirpur Division.
According to Forms-26 and 27 issued by the AJK Election Commission, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured the remaining four seats.
The PML-N won constituencies across Mirpur, Bhimber, and Kotli districts, while the PPP secured key seats in Mirpur city and Kotli.
Election Results Show Close Contests
In Mirpur, PML-Nโs Azhar Sadiq won LA-1 with 15,427 votes, while PPP candidate Qasim Majeed secured LA-2 with 13,378 votes.
PPPโs Yasir Sultan won LA-3 with 12,590 votes. Meanwhile, PML-Nโs Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmed secured LA-4 with 22,376 votes.
In Bhimber, PML-N candidates won Barnala, Samahni, and Bhimber constituencies.
The party also dominated Kotli, winning four of six seats. However, PPP candidates Zafar Iqbal and Chaudhry Yasin secured two constituencies.
The second and third election phases will take place on August 2 and August 10.
The remaining polls will cover nine Muzaffarabad division constituencies, 12 refugee constituencies, and 11 constituencies in Poonch division.
Meanwhile, the chief election commissioner described the election as the most difficult in AJKโs history.
