PML-N leader Malik Ahmad Khan asserted on Sunday that the PTI was actively promoting animosity against government officials, urging the caretaker government to intervene against the party. These comments followed allegations made by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha, who accused the Election Commission of Pakistan and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of manipulating the general elections—a claim refuted by both the electoral watchdog and the top judge.
Khan, addressing the media in Lahore with PML-N leaders Uzma Bukhari and Ata Tarar, emphasized that the Rawalpindi commissioner, who resigned after making the accusations, had no direct involvement in the electoral process. He highlighted the dangerous campaign initiated against various District Returning Officers (DROs) and their families on social media, creating a threat to their lives.
Referring to the situation as reminiscent of the May 9 incident following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan, Khan condemned what he described as anarchic behavior and violence. He stressed that government officials are the essential backbone of state machinery, criticizing the PTI for intimidating them and inciting attacks on their offices and homes.
Directing his comments to the caretaker government, Khan urged immediate action, expressing concern about potential consequences of the incitement. Drawing a controversial analogy, he likened the PTI to Colombia’s notorious cocaine baron Pablo Escobar, alleging that the party shares similar characteristics by harassing government officials. He concluded by stating that such behavior exemplifies the ideals adopted by the PTI.
