ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast another spell of monsoon rains across several parts of the country from July 29 to August 5.
According to a weather advisory issued Tuesday, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will enter upper and central Pakistan from July 29.
Meanwhile, a westerly wave affecting northern regions is expected to strengthen from August 1.
The PMD predicted thunderstorms and scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kashmir, upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Moreover, southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan may receive rain, with several districts experiencing moderate to heavy showers.
Urban Flooding Risk Increases
The Met Office warned that heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad between July 30 and August 4.
Similar flooding could affect several Sindh districts from July 31 to August 2.
Furthermore, flash floods may develop in local streams and nullahs across Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other vulnerable areas.
The advisory also warned of landslides in mountainous regions, particularly upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
The PMD advised tourists and travelers to remain cautious during the forecast period.
Additionally, farmers should adjust agricultural activities according to weather conditions and protect livestock.
Authorities have also been directed to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to reduce risks from the expected weather system.
