ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a guard of honour at Azerbaijan’s Zagulba Presidential Palace on Monday, marking his arrival for a two-day official visit aimed at holding bilateral talks with President Ilham Aliyev.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by a high-level delegation, was warmly welcomed by President Aliyev upon his arrival. The national anthems of both Pakistan and Azerbaijan were played, and a contingent of Azerbaijan’s armed forces gave the prime minister the guard of honour.
This marks PM Shehbaz’s second visit to Azerbaijan since taking office in March 2024. The delegation accompanying him includes key figures such as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Investment and Privatisation Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.
Following the ceremony, the two leaders proceeded to a bilateral meeting, with further delegation-level talks focusing on key areas of cooperation. The discussions are set to cover trade and investment expansion, energy cooperation, defense collaboration, climate change efforts, and cultural exchanges.
Additionally, the visit will include a ceremony to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements, aimed at bolstering the countries’ partnership. PM Shehbaz and President Aliyev will also address the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum, promoting business-to-business (B2B) collaboration and exploring joint ventures and trade opportunities.
This visit highlights the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, both of which are committed to enhancing economic cooperation and regional collaboration.
