Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a warm welcome and a guard of honour at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday as he began key engagements during his official visit to China.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz upon his arrival at the venue of the formal reception. Shehbaz Sharif arrived alongside Asim Munir, where both leaders exchanged greetings before introducing members of their respective delegations.
Ceremonial Welcome in Beijing
The national anthems of Pakistan and China were played during the ceremony as both prime ministers stood on the salute dais. Shortly afterward, smartly turned-out contingents of the Chinese armed forces presented a guard of honour, which Prime Minister Shehbaz formally reviewed.
The ceremony reflected the longstanding diplomatic ties between the two countries and set the stage for high-level bilateral talks expected during the visit.
High-Level Meetings Mark Official Visit
Prime Minister Shehbaz is visiting China from May 23 to 26, 2026. Earlier, during the first leg of his trip, he travelled to Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, where he chaired the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference focused on IT and telecom, battery energy storage systems, and agriculture.
During his stay in Beijing, he is scheduled to meet Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. In addition, he will attend a reception hosted by the Chinese Peopleโs Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
