Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Lachin, Azerbaijan on Tuesday, following the conclusion of his official visit to Iran, where he met with the country’s top leadership to discuss bilateral relations and regional security.
Upon his arrival in Azerbaijan, PM Sharif was welcomed by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. He is set to participate in a high-profile trilateral summit with the leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan, where the focus will be on strengthening economic collaboration, enhancing regional connectivity, and coordinating joint diplomatic initiatives.
PM Sharif is also expected to hold a crucial bilateral meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Officials say he will convey Pakistan’s appreciation for Azerbaijan’s consistent support, particularly during periods of heightened tensions with India.
Iran Visit Highlights
Earlier, during his visit to Tehran, Prime Minister Sharif met with Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The meetings centered around deepening Pakistan-Iran ties and addressing shared regional concerns.
At a joint press briefing, PM Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to engage in constructive dialogue with India for lasting peace in the region, while cautioning that any aggression from New Delhi would be met with a “befitting response.”
He also underscored the need for global solidarity with Palestinians, stating, “The international community must raise its voice for the people of Gaza.” He expressed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s pursuit of peaceful nuclear technology for civilian use.
President Peshmerga welcomed the ongoing ceasefire between Pakistan and India and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts for maintaining regional stability. “As key members of the OIC, Iran and Pakistan must remain united in condemning atrocities in Gaza,” he said, thanking Prime Minister Sharif and his delegation for their visit.
