The heads of the State signed the joint declaration of the Shinghai Cooperation Council in Bishkek today. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders signed the SCO joint declaration today.
The Council of Heads of State meeting is underway in Kyrgyzstan, with leaders from the organisation’s member states attending the proceedings.
Earlier, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz upon his arrival at the summit venue.
Both leaders shook hands before joining other heads of state for a group photograph.
SCO Leaders Gather in Kyrgyzstan
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are among the leaders attending the summit.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev are also participating.
Presidents Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan and Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan are attending the meeting as well.
President Zhaparov is chairing the summit as Kyrgyzstan holds the SCO’s rotating presidency for 2025-2026.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz will attend the SCO Plus Summit alongside representatives from non-member states and international organisations.
Pakistan will assume the SCO Council of Heads of State chairmanship for 2026-2027.
Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Ties on Agenda
During his visit, Shehbaz is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and other federal ministers and senior officials.
The prime minister will also hold bilateral talks with President Zhaparov to review relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, energy and regional connectivity.
Furthermore, both sides will explore greater cooperation in education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The talks will support Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional economic and diplomatic partnerships through the SCO platform.
