Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of gas shortages during Sehar and Iftar in the holy month of Ramadan, directing authorities to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers.
Responding to public complaints, the prime minister convened an emergency meeting late Monday night with senior officials from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to address gas supply issues, particularly in areas facing low pressure.
Following the meeting, SSGC announced an immediate 10% increase in gas pressure and introduced a plan to begin gas distribution 30 to 45 minutes before Sehar and Iftar in tail-end areas to stabilize supply levels.
To monitor the situation, control rooms have been set up at SSGC’s head office and regional centers, tasked with overseeing daily supply and addressing complaints on a priority basis.
“Complaints regarding low gas pressure will be dealt with urgently, and a daily report will be submitted,” an SSGC spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, SNGPL also assured consumers of uninterrupted gas supply during Sehar and Iftar.
“In line with the Prime Minister’s directives, we are taking immediate steps to ensure citizens do not face difficulties during these crucial hours,” an SNGPL spokesperson stated.
Consumers have been urged to report complaints by calling the company’s helpline at 1199.
