ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a “warm and cordial” telephone conversation on Wednesday, focusing on the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and the urgent need for de-escalation.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders exchanged Eid-ul-Fitr greetings and conveyed best wishes for King Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi royal family, and the people of the Kingdom. The Crown Prince reciprocated the sentiments, highlighting the longstanding and brotherly relations between the two countries.
During the discussion, Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Pakistan’s “complete solidarity and unequivocal support” for the Kingdom. He praised Riyadh’s restraint amid rising tensions, describing it as a crucial step in preventing further escalation in the region.
Moreover, the prime minister briefed the Crown Prince on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach. He noted that Islamabad has engaged multiple regional stakeholders in recent days, urging dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes.
Shehbaz emphasised the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities to restore stability. He also underscored the importance of prioritising diplomatic channels over military confrontation. In addition, he called for unity within the Muslim world to collectively address the crisis.
In response, Mohammed bin Salman appreciated Pakistan’s proactive peace efforts and acknowledged its role in promoting regional stability. He also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan across political, economic, and security domains.
The conversation comes at a critical time as tensions across the Middle East continue to rise, prompting renewed calls for diplomacy and coordinated international efforts to avoid a wider conflict.
