Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to prepare a comprehensive roadmap aimed at boosting trade and investment in Pakistan. The premier emphasized that reforms must be designed with the future in mind to ensure organized and sustainable progress toward national economic goals.
Chairing a high-level meeting virtually from London, the prime minister highlighted the importance of developing a reform agenda backed by practical projects. He stressed that sectors such as agriculture, information technology, minerals, tourism, and renewable energy hold immense potential to attract foreign investment.
According to the prime minister, increasing investment alone will not be enough. Promoting trade is equally essential to achieve the government’s policy of boosting national exports. Ministries have been assigned clear targets and are expected to utilize all available resources to ensure the timely completion of ongoing and new projects.
Shehbaz Sharif urged ministers to identify feasible projects in their respective sectors and take immediate steps to implement them. He noted that the reform agenda should not only address current needs but also anticipate future challenges to keep Pakistan on the right path of economic development.
The prime minister also underlined the pivotal role of the private sector in achieving the country’s investment and trade objectives. He assured that government policies will ensure active participation of private enterprises, creating an enabling environment for growth and innovation.
Highlighting recent progress, Shehbaz Sharif said that ongoing economic and financial reforms have provided a new direction to the national economy. He credited transparency and innovation in governance for putting Pakistan on the track of sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by senior federal ministers from key portfolios, including finance, commerce, petroleum, environment, information, and economic affairs. Discussions focused on strategies to enhance investment volumes, trade activities, and overall economic stability.
The directive comes at a crucial time as Pakistan seeks to strengthen international ties and economic partnerships. Following his official visit to Saudi Arabia, where he signed a historic mutual defense pact, the prime minister has now arrived in the United States.
In New York, Shehbaz Sharif will lead Pakistan’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. During the session, he is expected to call on the international community to address long-standing conflicts, particularly the unresolved issues in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.
The prime minister will also participate in key meetings, including a special high-level event on climate action and the Global Development Initiative forum. Moreover, he is scheduled to attend a meeting of Islamic leaders with the US president to discuss matters concerning regional peace and global security.
By linking domestic reforms with international engagement, the government aims to position Pakistan as a reliable partner for trade and investment. The roadmap, once implemented, will not only drive exports but also ensure sustainable economic growth across multiple sectors.
