Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the death of a university student in Islamabad and ordered immediate action against the accused allegedly linked to the case.
The student, identified as 20-year-old Laiba Ijaz, was enrolled at the International Islamic University Islamabad. Her death has sparked widespread concern and calls for a transparent investigation.
According to reports, Laiba was allegedly defrauded of around Rs. 5 million by a travel agent. The financial loss reportedly caused severe distress before her death. The exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz described the incident as deeply tragic.
He directed the Islamabad Inspector General of Police and the Chief Commissioner to ensure the immediate arrest of the accused person allegedly responsible for defrauding the student.
The prime minister also said those found responsible should face exemplary punishment under the law.
Laiba was reportedly a gold-medallist student. Her funeral was held in Sector G-10, Islamabad, on Saturday.
Family members, relatives and other mourners attended the funeral before she was laid to rest at the H-11 graveyard.
The case has raised serious concerns about financial fraud targeting young people and students.
It has also renewed calls for stronger checks on travel agents and other service providers dealing with education and overseas opportunities.
Authorities are expected to investigate the alleged fraud and determine the full chain of events that led to the student’s death.
