Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Daanish IT Park in Islamabad on Saturday, describing the facility as an important milestone for Pakistan’s economic development and technological progress.
The newly renamed National Technology Park aims to bring incubation centres, innovation hubs, small and medium-sized enterprises, startups and industry leaders together under one roof. Shehbaz said the facility would empower young people, strengthen the information technology sector and help Pakistan move towards becoming a developed country.
He added that similar technology parks would be established across the country once the Islamabad facility becomes fully operational. These centres could also support industries such as agriculture, mining and minerals.
Technology Park To Promote Innovation And Skills
The prime minister said the park would host artificial intelligence experts and provide opportunities for skill development, vocational training and entrepreneurship. He stressed that the project was about creating an ecosystem for innovation rather than simply constructing a large building.
Shehbaz noted that the project’s foundation had been laid during 2017-18. He credited the Ministry of Information Technology and its team for helping revive the previously struggling project.
Moreover, he directed the ministry to conduct transparent bidding and invite leading Pakistani and international IT companies to operate the facility. He said the park should function under internationally recognised standard operating procedures without government interference.
Pakistan And South Korea Strengthen IT Cooperation
Shehbaz renamed Islamabad IT Park as Daanish IT Park to recognise the contribution of Daanish schools, which provide quality education to talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds. He also mentioned that Daanish University was being established in Islamabad.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, parliamentarians, business leaders, technology experts and students.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in information technology and artificial intelligence. He said AI could help address shared challenges, including global health concerns and food security.
Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja also addressed the ceremony, highlighting the government’s focus on technology-led development.
