Fuel Discount Announced After Petrol Prices Cross Rs375 Per Litre
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special petrol relief package to reduce the impact of rising fuel prices on low-income vehicle users.
Under the scheme, motorcycle owners, rickshaw drivers, Chingchi operators and small vehicle users will receive a Rs100 per litre petrol discount.
The move comes after the latest fuel price hike, which pushed petrol prices to Rs375.82 per litre and diesel prices to Rs403.32 per litre.
The government increased petrol prices by Rs5.02 per litre and high-speed diesel prices by Rs5.28 per litre following rising global oil market pressures.
Relief Limited to Monthly Petrol Quotas
According to the government’s announcement, motorcycle, rickshaw and other two- and three-wheeler users will receive a Rs100 per litre discount on up to 20 litres of petrol every month.
Owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc will receive the same relief on a monthly quota of up to 30 litres.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government understands the difficulties caused by rising fuel costs and will support citizens during challenging economic conditions.
He said the scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on people who depend on motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles for daily travel and work.
Registration Begins as Government Expands Relief Across Pakistan
The petrol relief scheme will initially start in Islamabad from the night between Monday and Tuesday.
The programme will be expanded across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, from the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
The government has started registration for the scheme and will launch an awareness campaign to guide citizens through the process.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also thanked provincial governments for sharing vehicle registration data to help implement the programme.
The relief package comes as global oil markets remain unstable due to rising tensions in the Middle East and concerns over energy supply disruptions.
