ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Field Marshal Asim Munir left for Saudi Arabia on a three-day official to hold crucial talks for regional security and bilateral cooperation. The visit starting from today (August 6), will conclude on August 8, the Foreign Office announced on Thursday.
During the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will join the delegation. Dar is currently in Saudi Arabia after completing an official visit to Jordan.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will hold an important meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Both leaders will discuss ways to further strengthen Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations.
Moreover, they will exchange views on regional and international developments of mutual interest. The discussions will also focus on expanding cooperation across strategic and diplomatic sectors.
Andrabi said the visit reflects Pakistan’s long-standing partnership with Saudi Arabia. He added that the relationship is built on decades of mutual trust, cooperation, and brotherhood.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson noted that the visit comes during heightened tensions in the Gulf region. However, he stressed that its importance extends well beyond the immediate crisis and short-term considerations.
According to the Foreign Office, the visit will further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. Furthermore, it will deepen strategic cooperation and improve coordination on regional and global issues.
The spokesperson also said both sides will seek to reinforce collaboration at multilateral forums. Consequently, the visit is expected to enhance diplomatic engagement and advance shared interests.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain close political, economic, and security ties. Therefore, the high-level meetings are expected to reinforce cooperation and support continued engagement on matters affecting regional peace and stability.
