Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority to provide maximum relief to flood-hit citizens.
He issued the instructions during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik on Saturday.
The prime minister ordered authorities to use all available resources for relief operations. He also directed the NDMA to coordinate closely with provincial authorities and disaster management agencies.
Shehbaz also appreciated the use of artificial intelligence and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operation Centre.
NDMA Briefs PM on Flood Response
The NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister about the country’s weather conditions and ongoing monsoon-related flooding.
He also outlined relief operations and rehabilitation measures for affected communities. NDMA operations will continue across flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the NDMA, rain-related incidents have killed 155 people since June 26. The disasters have also injured 460 people through August 14.
Flood Risk Remains High Across Pakistan
Monsoon rains provide essential water supplies but can also trigger floods and landslides. Vulnerable communities face increased risks from heavy rainfall and displacement.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting Division issued a warning about possible high flooding in storm-water nullahs. The warning covers areas connected to the Chenab and Ravi rivers from August 15 to 21.
Authorities said water flows in both rivers continue to rise. Consequently, disaster agencies remain on alert as heavy monsoon rainfall continues across affected regions.
