NEW YORK: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar urged United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to honor commitments made with Pakistan regarding climate change issues and losses.
Developed nations had pledged support to Pakistan after last year’s floods.
The meeting between Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres took place on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

PM Kakar expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General for his unwavering support during the previous year’s floods and for co-hosting the Geneva Conference on Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework.
He also briefed him about the recently established Special Investment Facilitation Council, aimed at promoting investments in Pakistan to facilitate the country’s robust economic recovery.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar’s call for the fulfillment of climate finance with Pakistan emphasizes the need for concrete action on climate change. Additionally, his efforts to promote investment through the Special Investment Facilitation Council underscore Pakistan’s commitment to economic recovery.
Dollar Continues To Drop: Interbank Rate Falls By Rs1.03
Moreover, on Thursday, the rupeeโs ongoing strengthening trend against the dollar continued, as the greenback depreciated by Rs1.03 in theย interbank market.
With this latest decrease, the dollar now trades at Rs292.85.
In recent weeks, the dollar had breached the Rs300 mark in both the interbank and open markets. However, persistent efforts by authorities, including crackdowns on smuggling and tighter controls, have contributed to the steady decline in the dollarโs value.
Additionally, at the start of trading on Thursday, the stock market showed a positive trend, with the PSX 100 index gaining 65 points and reaching 45,950 points early in the day.
