Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the IT sector’s critical role in Pakistan’s economic revival. He noted that the industry has grown steadily despite persistent macroeconomic challenges. Government Initiatives to Support IT Growth
While chairing the private sector working group on IT, the Prime Minister welcomed recommendations from the IT committee head, Asif Peer. He described the proposals as timely and aligned with the government’s reform agenda.
The PM highlighted that rising IT exports are a sign of the sector’s resilience and potential. He stressed that enhancing technical training, offering tax facilitation, and removing structural bottlenecks are crucial for sustained growth.
Every step in technical education is aimed at equipping Pakistani youth with skills that meet global standards. This approach ensures young professionals can compete in the international IT market as reliable and skilled contributors.
Expanding Employment and Digital Opportunities
The Prime Minister instructed ministries to create more job opportunities, particularly through digital platforms and emerging technologies. He emphasized that advancing the digital economy depends on providing citizens with reliable and affordable internet access nationwide.
A high-level committee led by the finance minister was directed to review IT recommendations and submit a comprehensive report within two weeks. The proposals focus on expanding the digital economy, boosting IT exports, and implementing sectoral reforms.
Private Sector Engagement and Sectoral Reforms
Private sector participants welcomed ongoing government initiatives, including the full digitization of the Pakistan Software Export Board, the e-Rozgar scheme, and support for startups and innovation. They also highlighted efforts to increase Pakistan’s share in global IT exports.
The PM further advocated for a data-driven governance model to strengthen transparency and efficiency in the sector. He emphasized that integrating technology into governance would improve service delivery and facilitate growth.
