Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a 10-member committee to provide policy guidelines for improving governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the imposition of Governor’s Rule in the province.
The committee will review administrative matters and recommend measures to improve governance under the new arrangement. Its formation comes amid heightened attention to the province’s security situation and law-and-order challenges.
Senior Ministers Included In Committee
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will head the committee, which includes Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
Other members include Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Senator Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. In addition, representatives from the Pakistan Peoples Party, Balochistan Awami Party and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party will also join the committee.
The committee is expected to provide policy guidance and help coordinate decisions concerning the province’s administration. Its recommendations will focus on improving governance and addressing issues emerging under the new provincial setup.
First Meeting Reviews Provincial Situation
The committee held its first meeting in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Ishaq Dar. Participants reviewed measures taken in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after Governor’s Rule was imposed.
The federal government has also announced an 11-member advisory council to assist with the province’s administrative affairs. The council includes professionals and other members expected to support governance across key sectors.
The developments follow the imposition of an emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after President Asif Ali Zardari approved the federal government’s decision under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.
The new committee is expected to provide policy direction as authorities seek to address administrative and security concerns. Its work will take place alongside the advisory council’s role in supporting provincial governance.
