Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a Rs300 billion Quetta-Karachi highway project alongside the launch of five Danish schools in Balochistan. The initiatives aim to boost development while strengthening security across the province.
Speaking to political leaders in Quetta, the prime minister emphasized that development and security must progress together in Balochistan. He highlighted the efforts of Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in gradually restoring peace.
The prime minister congratulated Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on being elected chief of the Bugti tribe. He also praised cabinet members and provincial leaders for their contributions to stability and governance in the region.
Addressing militancy, PM Shehbaz Sharif stated that terrorist groups, including Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan, were receiving external support. He paid tribute to security personnel and civilians who sacrificed their lives and reiterated that the government would continue combating terrorism until it is eliminated.
Highlighting federal support, the prime minister noted that Punjab contributed Rs11 billion from its own share to support development projects in Balochistan. He confirmed that the Chaman-Quetta-Karachi route would be upgraded into a four-lane highway at an estimated cost of Rs300 billion. Savings from recent petroleum price reductions have been earmarked for the project.
On education, the prime minister recognized the talent of children in Balochistan and announced the establishment of five Danish schools to improve access to quality education. He emphasized that the federal government will continue collaborating with provincial leadership to address hardships caused by terrorism and underdevelopment.
Earlier, PM Shehbaz chaired a high-level meeting on law and order. During the meeting, Chief Minister Bugti briefed him on the security situation and ongoing development projects. The prime minister also met Governor Jehangir Khan Mandokhail at the Governorโs House to discuss political affairs, provincial development initiatives, and security matters.
Additionally, PM Shehbaz Sharif held meetings with the chief minister and members of the Balochistan cabinet at the Chief Ministerโs House. Detailed briefings were provided on the progress of development projects currently underway in the province.
The meetings were attended by federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Aleem Khan, Rana Sanaullah, and other prominent Balochistan leaders. The prime minister reiterated his commitment to sustaining development momentum, enhancing public welfare, and strengthening security across Balochistan.
The Quetta-Karachi highway project and Danish schools initiative are part of a broader strategy to integrate infrastructure development, education, and security measures in Balochistan. Officials believe these projects will stimulate economic growth, improve connectivity, and provide better opportunities for local communities.
