The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three employees of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in a case involving alleged fake medico-legal certificates and bribery.
The FIA Anti-Corruption Circle conducted a sting operation at the PIMS medico-legal office. Authorities accused the employees of issuing fake medico-legal certificates (MLCs) in exchange for money.
According to officials, these certificates were allegedly used to support false legal cases. The investigation began after an undercover operation conducted by the FIA team in Islamabad.
FIA Conducts Undercover Operation at PIMS
During the operation, an FIA official approached PIMS employees while pretending to seek a fake medico-legal certificate as a complainant.
Officials claimed that the undercover officer provided Rs50,000 as an advance payment. Following the operation, the FIA arrested two male employees.
Authorities later detained a female medico-legal officer in connection with the case. The arrested individuals included a medico-legal officer, a clerk, and a ward master.
The two male employees were presented before the court and sent on physical remand for questioning. Meanwhile, the female medico-legal officer was sent to jail on judicial remand.
The female officer also serves as Deputy Director Evening at PIMS.
PIMS Responds After FIA Raid
Following the arrests, the PIMS administration confirmed the incident and submitted a report to the Ministry of National Health.
According to the report, the FIA carried out the operation at the medico-legal office on July 21. The PIMS Executive Director later informed the ministry about the arrests.
The administration said it would take action against the employees according to legal procedures. It also recommended suspending the female officer as an administrative measure after registration of the case.
However, PIMS officials clarified that suspension does not prove guilt. They said the final decision would depend on court proceedings.
Officials also stated that the female officer has maintained a good professional reputation. They described her as honest, hardworking, and respected within the institution.
Investigation Continues Under Legal Proceedings
The FIA has registered a case against the accused under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. The charges include forgery, cheating, and using fake documents.
The case includes sections 420, 468, 471, and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Authorities have also included Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.
PIMS officials said all accused individuals will remain innocent until a court proves the charges against them.
They added that if the allegations against the female officer are found incorrect, legal assistance will be provided.
The FIA investigation is ongoing, while the court proceedings will determine the final facts of the case.
