Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has welcomed its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at Islamabad International Airport. The aircraft arrived from London on Sunday, marking a major development in the national carrier’s fleet expansion.
The Dreamliner operated flight PK-786 and landed at approximately 5:42am. PIA Chief Executive Officer Air Vice Marshal Amir Hayat received the aircraft alongside airline officials.
Modern Aircraft Joins PIA’s Fleet
PIA acquired the Boeing 787-9 from Norwegian airline Norse Atlantic Airways under a wet-lease agreement. The arrangement includes the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance services.
The aircraft can accommodate 358 passengers and offers modern technology and improved fuel efficiency. It also features an in-flight entertainment system and a spacious cabin designed for long-haul journeys.
The addition marks the first time a Boeing 787-9 has entered a Pakistani airline’s commercial fleet. PIA aims to improve passenger facilities while strengthening its international operations.
Dreamliner to Support UK Flight Expansion
The new aircraft will help PIA increase capacity on routes connecting Pakistan with the United Kingdom. The airline plans to expand its London services from four weekly flights to seven.
The Dreamliner arrangement also supports PIA’s efforts to meet growing demand for international travel. Its wet-lease structure allows the airline to expand operations without independently arranging aircraft crews and maintenance.
PIA has also secured an agreement for two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Their introduction is expected to support the airline’s wider fleet modernisation plans.
The development represents a new step in PIA’s efforts to strengthen its international network and improve long-haul connectivity.
