Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received clearance to operate its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, marking a significant development in the national carrier’s fleet modernisation plans.
A delegation led by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General Nader Shafi Dar inspected the aircraft at Oslo Airport and granted permission for its operation in Pakistan.
The clearance comes as PIA prepares to introduce three Boeing 787 aircraft to strengthen its international flight network and improve passenger services.
Sources said the second aircraft would undergo inspection at Oslo Airport on Monday, while the third aircraft is scheduled for inspection at London Airport on November 20.
PIA plans to operate its first Boeing 787 flight on October 31. Flight PK-786 will depart from London for Islamabad, with the aircraft expected to arrive in the Pakistani capital with passengers on November 1.
The aircraft has a seating capacity of 358 passengers, offering the airline additional capacity for long-haul operations.
The introduction of the Dreamliner follows PIA’s agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways to operate Boeing 787-9 aircraft as part of its efforts to expand services between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the airline is preparing to introduce new cabin crew uniforms on October 31, coinciding with the launch of its Boeing 787 operations.
The aircraft’s entry into service is expected to support PIA’s international expansion plans and provide more travel options for passengers travelling between Pakistan and overseas destinations.
The development represents another step in the airline’s efforts to modernise its fleet and strengthen its position in the international aviation market.
