Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced on Tuesday that dense fog was disrupting flight operations in four Punjab citiesโLahore, Multan, Sialkot, and Faisalabadโaffecting both domestic and international services.
The airline urged passengers to check the latest flight information before heading to the airport, as temporary adjustments were made to schedules to ensure safety and minimize delays.
A PIA spokesperson explained that reduced visibility due to dense fog posed significant challenges for aircraft during takeoff and landing. Passengers were advised to contact the PIA helpline for updates on their flights. The airline emphasized that safety remained the top priority, and all changes were implemented with this in mind.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Departmentโs weekly weather outlook, cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country on Tuesday. The department predicted that moderate to dense fog or smog would persist over Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, further impacting air and road travel.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had earlier issued a warning for heavy smog and fog across Punjab from December 12 to 16, urging citizens to take precautionary measures to ensure safety.
Residents were advised to drive cautiously, use fog lights, and allow extra travel time on roads, while travelers were encouraged to stay updated on weather and flight conditions.
The dense fog comes amid the winter season, which frequently brings reduced visibility across northern and central Pakistan. Airlines operating in the affected regions have been coordinating with aviation authorities to adjust schedules and minimize disruptions while maintaining strict safety standards.
Passengers are strongly encouraged to stay in regular contact with airlines for the latest updates, exercise patience during travel delays, and follow airport guidelines to ensure safe operations during periods of limited visibility caused by fog.
