ISLAMABAD: PIA’s airhostess Samera Aftab has been suspended after recovery of smartphones and smart watches from her possession. She arrived in Karachi from Toronto with PK-784 flight.
Sources identified the air hostess as Samera Aftab, who arrived in Karachi from Toronto aboard flight PK-784 a few days ago. The PIA vigilance department submitted a report to the airlineโs human resources department. Consequently, the administration launched a formal investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the airline has also secured important developments concerning its London operations.
Heathrow slots to boost London flights
PIA has regained 14 landing slots at Londonโs Heathrow Airport that foreign airlines previously held following restrictions on its UK operations. The restored slots could allow PIA to increase services between Pakistan and London under its winter schedule from October.
According to sources, weekly Islamabad-London flights could rise from three to five. Similarly, Lahore-London services may increase from one to two flights weekly.
Moreover, the restored slots could improve connectivity from Karachi and Sialkot through connecting flights.
The development is expected to strengthen PIAโs position in the UK market and improve air links between Pakistan and Britain.
In 2022, PIA transferred seven Heathrow slots to foreign airlines for six months. Turkish Airlines received six slots, while Kuwait Airways received one.
The arrangement followed restrictions on PIA flights after the European Union suspended operations over safety concerns.
