Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi hold talks with Boeing delegation to finalise fleet expansion
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has moved forward with its fleet modernisation plans after senior officials held discussions with Boeing representatives regarding the proposed acquisition of 16 new aircraft.
According to officials, PIA Chairman and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met a Boeing delegation to review key aspects of the proposed purchase and discuss steps toward finalising the agreement.
The meeting focused on expanding and modernising the national carrier’s fleet as part of broader efforts to improve operational efficiency, strengthen international connectivity and enhance passenger services.
Fleet modernisation remains a priority
During the discussions, both sides reviewed technical, operational and commercial matters related to the planned acquisition. Officials said the proposed addition of 16 Boeing aircraft would significantly strengthen PIA’s long-term fleet renewal strategy and support future route expansion.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the airline’s competitiveness by replacing ageing aircraft with more modern and fuel-efficient models capable of meeting growing domestic and international travel demand.
Talks continue on final agreement
Meanwhile, officials described the meeting as a positive step toward concluding the proposed deal. While no financial details or delivery timeline were announced, both parties agreed to continue discussions to complete the necessary commercial and technical arrangements.
The planned acquisition reflects PIA’s broader objective of rebuilding its operational capacity and improving service quality after years of restructuring. Industry observers say a larger and more modern fleet could enhance reliability, increase route flexibility and strengthen the airline’s position in regional and international aviation markets once the agreement is finalised.
