A woman known locally as “Phoolan Devi” allegedly opened fire on her husband in a crowded street in Muridke, leaving a passing child seriously injured.
The incident took place in the Mohammad Pura area of Muridke following an argument between the woman and her husband, according to a report by 24NewsHD TV.
Police said the woman allegedly fired at her husband in the middle of the street.
A bullet struck a child who was passing through the area at the time.
The injured child was identified as Hadi.
He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Child Transferred to Lahore Hospital
Hadi was initially taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Muridke.
Doctors later transferred him to Mayo Hospital in Lahore because of the severity of his injuries.
The child’s family has sought legal action against the woman.
Police said the child’s father, Munir, submitted a complaint following the incident.
Authorities have started legal proceedings based on the complaint.
Suspect Arrested With Weapon
Police said the woman was arrested shortly after the shooting.
The weapon allegedly used in the incident was also recovered from her possession.
According to police, the woman is known in the neighbourhood by the nickname “Phoolan Devi.”
Police further claimed that she had allegedly been involved in previous incidents of firing in the area.
Residents reportedly fled the street when the gunfire began.
The sudden shooting caused panic among people in the neighbourhood, with residents running for safety.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Investigators are examining the argument between the woman and her husband and the events that led to the gunfire.
Authorities are also collecting evidence and investigating the weapon used in the incident.
Police said further action will be taken according to the findings of the investigation and the applicable law.
The condition of the injured child remains a key concern as he continues treatment at Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
