The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has formally asked the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to move next month’s Asian Champions Trophy out of India.
The PHF has also proposed shifting all Pakistan matches to a neutral venue.
The federation cited the “sensitive bilateral situation” between Pakistan and India.
PHF Seeks Safe Venue for Pakistan Team
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani confirmed the request on Wednesday.
He said the move aims to provide a safe and suitable environment for Pakistan’s players and officials.
The PHF has not withdrawn from the tournament.
Pakistan remains committed to participating in the Asian Champions Trophy.
Wani said Pakistan is ready to play against India and other international teams at a neutral venue.
Tournament Scheduled in India
The Asian Champions Trophy is scheduled from October 27 to November 5.
India, Pakistan, China, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea are expected to participate.
Jalandhar will host the opening ceremony and league-stage matches from October 27 to November 2.
The semi-finals and final are scheduled for Mohali on November 4 and 5.
Pakistan is scheduled to face India in Jalandhar on November 1.
Government Direction Behind Request
Sources said the PHF made the latest request following directions from the federal government.
The federation had earlier said Pakistan’s tour to India would require government approval.
The PHF said it hopes the AHF will consider its proposal and ensure Pakistan’s participation.
Pakistan Avoids Withdrawal
The latest request does not mean Pakistan is withdrawing from the tournament.
Instead, the PHF wants Pakistan’s matches played at a neutral venue.
Pakistan also withdrew from last year’s Junior World Cup in Tamil Nadu amid heightened tensions between the two countries.
