The Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted transit bail to Noreen Niazi on Monday in a case registered under the Peca Act 2016.
Noreen, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, must approach the relevant Islamabad court by August 20.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) registered the case against Noreen in July. Authorities accused her of making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about state institutions.
The allegations reportedly relate to a podcast interview and clips later shared on X. The NCCIA registered the FIR at its Islamabad police station on July 27.
PHC Grants Interim Relief To Noreen Niazi
Justice Arshad Ali heard Noreen’s petition through a single-member bench. A legal team including Ali Zaman, Amir Zeb, and Barrister Sarwar Muzaffar Shah represented her.
The court noted Noreen’s claim that authorities had falsely implicated her. It also observed that the FIR contained allegations but lacked other compelling evidence connecting her to the alleged offence.
Consequently, the court accepted her request for transit bail. It granted ad-interim pre-arrest bail against bail bonds worth Rs. 80,000.
The court also required two sureties and directed Noreen to approach the competent Islamabad court. The PHC order will remain effective until August 20.
Lawyers Reject Allegations Against Noreen
Noreen’s lawyers argued that their client remained innocent and faced false accusations. They also alleged that local police sought her arrest with mala fide intentions.
The legal team claimed authorities intended to humiliate and harass Noreen for ulterior motives. They further described the FIR allegations as false and politically motivated.
According to the lawyers, authorities had also misunderstood statements allegedly attributed to their client. They urged the court to consider the circumstances surrounding the case.
The Islamabad court will now determine the next legal proceedings after Noreen approaches the relevant forum.
