Government forms committee to address transporters’ concerns
ISLAMABAD: Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced on Monday that the government had reduced fuel prices, while assuring stakeholders that discussions with the Oil Tankers Association had produced encouraging results.
Speaking to the media, the minister said the government remained committed to resolving issues affecting the petroleum transportation sector through dialogue and consultation.
According to Malik, the meeting with representatives of the Oil Tankers Association was constructive and ended on a positive note. He said both sides exchanged views on key concerns facing the industry and agreed to continue engagement to reach practical solutions.
The minister added that the government aims to ensure the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products while addressing operational challenges raised by transporters.
Committee to review industry issues
To tackle the association’s concerns, Malik announced the formation of a special committee headed by the Special Secretary.
He said the committee would examine the issues raised during the meeting and prepare a comprehensive report containing recommendations for the government.
According to the minister, the committee will consult relevant stakeholders before submitting its findings, allowing authorities to consider appropriate measures for resolving the outstanding matters.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would help strengthen coordination between the government and the oil transportation sector.
Dialogue to continue with stakeholders
Malik reiterated that the government believes constructive engagement is the most effective way to resolve disputes affecting the petroleum industry.
He said consultations with industry representatives would continue in the coming days to ensure that concerns are addressed promptly and that fuel distribution across the country remains stable.
The minister did not provide additional details regarding the extent of the fuel price reduction or specify when the committee is expected to submit its report.
The announcement comes as the government continues efforts to maintain stability in the energy sector while working with transporters and other stakeholders to improve the efficiency of Pakistan’s petroleum supply chain and prevent disruptions to fuel availability nationwide.
